01The setup
The first 60 minutes after park opening (rope drop) are the most valuable window of your day. Wait times run 50-70% shorter than midday peaks because most guests are still entering, buying coffee, or figuring out their plan.
Rope drop wait times run 50-70% shorter than midday peaks.
Your strategy depends on which park you visit. At Disneyland, head straight to Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. It builds to 80-100 minute waits by 10 AM but is often walkable or under 20 minutes at opening. From there, hit Indiana Jones Adventure before its line grows. If Rise has a delayed opening (it happens), pivot to Space Mountain or Matterhorn Bobsleds first. At Disney California Adventure, Radiator Springs Racers is the clear priority. This ride hits 60-90 minute waits regularly but can be under 15 minutes at rope drop.
02Going deeper
As of January 2026, Early Entry for hotel guests has been discontinued. Everyone enters at the same time, so rope drop matters more than before. Position yourself at the gates 45-60 minutes before the published opening time. Disneyland often opens 10-15 minutes early, and being near the front of the crowd helps. Have your tickets, park reservation, and bag check handled before you line up. Once the gates open, walk briskly (no running) toward your target ride. After your first ride, head to your second priority nearby rather than backtracking. You can knock out 3-4 headliner attractions before the general crowd catches up.
Tip Have your tickets, park reservation, and bag check handled before you line up at the gates.
